Basically is a fully enclosed building, generally double ended, with special (patented) air jets in the floor, fully computer controlled. When the feedstock has been filled into the tunnel, either by foreloader, (pictured right), or filling device, the doors are closed and the process computer set to operate.
Filling with in-tunnel device, gives a very well mixed feedstock, where moisture addition, water or liquid waste, can be added very evenly throughout feedstock.
The computer monitors, oxygen, compost temps, fan speed, supply and return air temps, damper settings and humidity. this gives a minute by minute display to prove the temperature profile and with a modem can be monitored from your armchair at home.
The system moves large amounts of air, most of which is recycled, which guarantees that 100% of the compost is within a very tight temperature band, generally + or - 1° C. This amount of air gives a negative moisture balance i.e. we have to add moisture to the feedstock to prevent excessive drying, but it ensures that we do not need to send tankers of recycled water for treatment and can actually mix in liquid waste feedstock.
